Chemical Peel Before and Aftercare

Book Online!
Before your chemical peel
  • Avoid the sun for 5 days before your peel
  • Do not use any retinoid products for at least 5 days before your peel
  • Do not use acne topical agents for at least 5 days before your peel
  • Do not use Accutane for at least 5 days before your peel
  • Do not have botox or fillers before a chemical peel
  • Do not take antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications before a chemical peel as these can cause photosensitivity (extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun and other light sources)
  • Avoid taking blood thinners
  • Do not use BHA or salicylic acid (used in The Renewing Mini-Facial) if pregnant of if you have sensitivity to aspirin.
  • If you also have the following treatments, please wait the indicated time between that treatment and a chemical peel:
    • Microdermabrasion - can have a mild peel immediately, otherwise wait a week
    • IPL (intense pulse light) Photofacial - wait 3-4 weeks
    • Fractional laser - wait one month
    • Laser resurfacing - wait one month
    • Laser hair removal - wait one week
Chemical peel aftercare
After a chemical peel, it's best to treat your skin like it has experienced a mild burn:
  • Your skin will be red and slightly irritated for 30-45 minutes. If the skin is really irritated, apply a soothing mask for 10 minutes.
  • Do not pick or scratch your skin.
  • Do not take antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications for at least a week following your peel. These can cause photosensitivity (extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun and other light sources).
  • Do not use any retinoid products (e.g. Retina A), acne topical agents, or creams containing glycolic acid for at least 5 days after a peel because they can irritate freshly exfoliated skin.
  • Do not use any harsh scrubs or soaps for a few days.
  • Avoid the sun for 5 days, then wear a high-quality sunscreen of SPF 30+ when you go into the sun.
