Chemical peel aftercare After a chemical peel, it's best to treat your skin like it has experienced a mild burn:
Your skin will be red and slightly irritated for 30-45 minutes. If the skin is really irritated, apply a soothing mask for 10 minutes.
Do not pick or scratch your skin.
Do not take antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications for at least a week following your peel. These can cause photosensitivity (extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun and other light sources).
Do not use any retinoid products (e.g. Retina A), acne topical agents, or creams containing glycolic acid for at least 5 days after a peel because they can irritate freshly exfoliated skin.
Do not use any harsh scrubs or soaps for a few days.
Avoid the sun for 5 days, then wear a high-quality sunscreen of SPF 30+ when you go into the sun.
